Based on what little I know about this subject...  I think most investment advisors suggest people diversity their wealth in these areas:

Stocks (KOSPI in Korea)

Bonds (usually government, for 5, 10 and 20 year investment periods)

Real Estate (property)

Cash (liquid assets) usually kept in interest bearing savings accounts.

Stocks can privide the largest return on an investment, but you can also lose all your money overnight.  Bonds are slow but sure earners, however you can't get your money back in a big hurry if you need it without losing all the returns you should have earned.  Real Estate is usually also considered a slow but sure earner.  Banks have the lowest interest payments, however, it is always good to keep some liquid reserves.
