15 Woman 95 world's oldest college
graduate
When Nola Ochs age 95,
graduated May 12, 2007, she was the world's oldest person to be awarded a college degree.
"That desire to study was
still there. I came here with no thought of it being an unusual thing at all," she said. "It was something I wanted to do.
It gave me a feeling of satisfaction. I like to study and learn."
The record Ochs broke, according
to Guinness World Records, belonged to Mozelle Richardson, who at age 90 in 2004 received a journalism degree from the University
of Oklahoma.
"We should all be so lucky
and do such amazing things. Her achievement challenges us all to reach for our own goals and dreams," said Tom Nelson, AARP
chief operating officer in Washington.
But she added: "I don't dwell on my age. It might limit what I can do. As long as
I have my mind and health, it's just a number."
At 5-foot-2, her white hair
pulled into a bun, she walked purposely down hallways to classes with her books in a cloth tote bag. Students nod and smile;
she's described as witty, charming and down to earth.
"Everybody has accepted me,
and I feel just like another student," she said. "The students respect me."
"She is pretty neat, a very
interesting person and very knowledgeable," Foster said.
An added joy for Ochs is that
her 21-year-old granddaughter, Alexandra Ochs, graduated with her.
After graduating she
got a job on a cruise ship as a storyteller.

16 Turning points in life
What were the major turning points in your life?
It could be graduating from high school, going to the army, getting married.
The next question is, how did that turning point change your life?
EXAMPLE: When I got married I had to stop drinking so much and had to
be careful with money.
EXAMPLE: When I was about 20, I got a letter from the university.
It said I was on final academic probation. I was a junior at the time. For my first three years at the university
I didn't really study and often skipped class. That letter really scared me. After that I became a good university
student, for the next 12 years! Receiving that letter was a major turning point in my life.

17 Something you saw today
Please describe something you saw today. Tell us what
it was and how you felt about it.
EXAMPLE: At about 9:30 a.m. this morning in Nonsan, I saw
a sad looking dog cross the street. He saw me and quickly walked the other way. I kind of felt sorry for the poor
dog. He didn't look happy. The experience reminded me of one difference between Korea and the U.S. In the
U.S. most dogs are very arrogant and confident. They don't fear humans.
