11 Law (법 ) – Crime (범죄 ) and punishment (벌
)
The following are just a few laws from the ancient ( 고대의 ) Code of
Hammurabi, c. 1780 BCE.
8. If any one steal (훔치다 ) cattle ( 소 )
or sheep ( 양 ), or an ass ( 당나귀 ), or a pig (돼지 ) or a goat (염소 )… he shall be put to death ( 죽음 ).
14. If any one steals the son of another (kidnapping), he shall be
put to death.
22. If any one is committing a robbery (강도 ) and is caught ( 잡다 ), then he shall be put to death.
129. If a man's wife (아내 ) be surprised in adultery (불륜 ) with another
man, both shall drowned (달래다 ) , but the husband may forgive (용서하다 ) his wife and the king his slaves (노예 ).
195. If a son strike (공격하다 ) his father, his hands shall be cut off (절단하다 ).
196. If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out.
202. If any one strike (공격하다 ) the body of a man higher in rank (높은계급의 ) than he shall receive sixty lashes (매질 ) with a whip (채찍 ) in public (공개적으로 ) .
